New Icons (outra vez)

As stated, the previous posts icons were just an initial test and shouldn’t have been considered indicative of what might else could come from the rumblings of well, wherever icons are borne at.

Anyways, here is a subset of a vastly different variation I had been working on. This follows the “slate” style popularised by OmniGroup, rather than the glassy that is rather touchy :)

For the add and remove buttons, it should be noted that even Apple is inconsistent in their presentation. Compare Finder’s white + with glow to Page’s green blob and white +. I opted to go with Page’s look. There are several variations on some of these, included a radically different approach to groups and buddy priority and buddy language. The main goal of this set of icons was to completely rid the set of the actual icon for a buddy wherever possible. With this set, an icon similar to OmniWeb’s web history would be used for chat history.

Again, comments appreciated.

    guifa -

Sorry again for the tardiness_ I know you all are getting closer to a finished product and the gears aren’t stopping on my account_ I was actually back to look up your info on voice implementation_ And I tend to stop by the site occasionally to check for updates and so forth_ As far as that goes [based on the info in the FAQ page] - forgive me if this is not the palce to ask - but - on the Mac side I’ve used Apple’s iChat which is running on some Apple stuff [dotMac] and also AIM and have used the voice just fine there using 2 AIM accounts_ Does Apple have some agrrement maybe with AOL to do that or are they using some sinister Apple technique to tap into the AIM network ?

As far as this set goes - I think it has more of a Fire feel than the older set did_ Vs. having something that does resemble say a Yahoo icon set_

I think I do still prefer the slate blue gradient you have currently v1.5_ I know things change - I redesign stuff all the time ’cause being visual - I get tired eventually of looking at the same “whatever” - month after month - year after year_

I think there actually okay_ At first glance they seemed to bug me - but couldn’t really put my finger on it_ one thing I noticed is that between Apple and Macromedia implementing numerous “glass effects” on everything graphic they’ve done lately - I thought - hey wait - there’s no glass effect on any of these_ But I think that’s totally fine_ I’ve never been big on following the crowd_ And I tend to look at and break apart how someone is creating some new trendy effect and then figure out how to work in aspects of it to my own stuff but yet maintain my personal style of design_

But yeah - I think they’re looking good_ They won’t shy me away from using Fire anytrime soon_ Do you thing and can’t wait for 2.0 to hit_

I agree with UberFu, these look quite alright, and also being a designer, that pretty much means you should go for it with these, maybe tweak them a little, but in general, these would be good for a release product (2.0). They’re pretty stylish, yet different from most other program graphics. when i see these, i think ‘milk-style’ don’t quite know why, but just wanted you to know ;)
